About Kerning

A magazine about web design, interfaces and the craft of building for the browser.

We started this because most writing about web design falls into two piles. One is announcements — a browser shipped a feature, a company redesigned a logo. The other is advice so general it fits any situation and helps in none of them.

What is missing is the middle: someone who did the work telling you what happened. How many people abandoned the form and at which field. What broke when the design met real content. Which of the new tools saved time and which quietly cost more than it saved.

How we work

Everyone who writes here does this for a living — designing, building or running research. Articles come out of client work, with the client's name removed and their permission asked. Numbers in our articles are numbers we measured, and when we are guessing we say so.

We do not run guest posts from agencies, we do not take payment for coverage, and when something is sponsored it is labelled at the top in the same size as the headline.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix it in the article and say what changed at the bottom, with the date. Quietly editing a mistake out is the same as pretending it never happened.

Get in touch

Pitches, corrections and arguments all go to hello@example.com. We read everything and reply to most of it.

If you are pitching: one paragraph on what you found out, one on how you know. We care much more about the second one.
